The airport has six runways and two terminals which was established in the year of 1929 over an area of 2.6km² that was in the name of Michigan’s Wayne Count and is still the owner.
Detroit is the main entrance to the continent of Asia for the eastern United States and is also considered Delta’s third busiest entrance to Europe. The airport is a major get through for visiting the metropolitan city of Detroit and is one of the SkyTeam’s major Midwestern hubs.
San Francisco International Airport, California
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is another airport that can be counted among the top five airports in the U.S. San Francisco airport is among the largest in the Bay Area and the second busiest in California, Los Angeles International Airport being the first. It is located 13 miles south of downtown San Francisco in California and is spread across an area of 21.07km². The airport witnessed more than 55 million travelers on its premises in 2017, making it the 24th most engaged airport in the world.
The airport was inaugurated in 2000 and has four terminals, including the International Terminal. This airport was the first airport to build gates and had the ability to fit the Airbus A380 double-decker aircraft.
O’Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois
O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is considered the most busy airport in the United States and is a major hub for connecting to several places in the Midwest. It is spread across an area of 30.86km² in the north-west urban area of Chicago. The airport is also considered the sixth most busy in the world, witnessing almost 79 million passengers and 867,049 air activity in 2017.
The airport has constructed seven runways and more eight will be constructed. Those under construction are expected to be completed within 2020.
Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport, Texas
Dallas/ Fort Worth International airport has also made the list of International airports in the USA. The airport is spread across a total area of 69.63km² between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth in Texas, US. The airport has a total of five terminal buildings and a total of 165 gates. The airport is also considered the 12th most busy airport in the world, providing service for 67 million passengers in 2017. The airport was built with the plan of expanding it so that it can fit in 13 terminals along with 260 gates. However, it is being assumed that the amount of traffic that will be required for so much expansion will not be met in the near future.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport is another name you can add to the list. The airport has left out Beijing in the competition of the busiest airport in the world. The airport observes more than 100 million passengers a year. The location of the airport is convenient for passengers and is just a two-hour flight away from several cities in America. You can also visit the airport as it makes a very easy layover for connecting flights. The airport also acts as the main hub for Delta Airlines.
