McCarran International Airport popularly known as LAS is an international airport located in Paradise, Nevada. It is identified as an airport mainly used for public and military use in the Las Vegas Valley which is a popular metropolitan area in Nevada, a major state of the United States. This international airport is located 5 miles south of downtown Las Vegas. It is a huge airport covering 2,800 acres of land. This major international airport of the United States operates non-flights to destinations in Asia, Europe and North America. Las Vegas Airport is also identified as a maintenance base for Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
McCarran Airport History
McCarran Airport is owned and operated by the Clark County Department of Aviation. The airport got its name in due respect of the late US Senator and a member of the Democratic Party named Pat McCarran. He made a huge contribution in the development of aviation. Las Vegas Airport was built in the year 1942. However, it started operating scheduled flights to domestic and international destination through reputable airlines in the year 1948. There are four runways at LAS. McCarran International Airport has two terminals and five concourses with 92 gates. In 1963 terminal 1 was completed. Later in the year 1986, it started operating flights also from terminal 2. Finally, in 2012 terminal 3 was completed. In the year 2016, terminal 2 was demolished and international flights operating from terminal 3 till now.
